When someone you know has lost a loved one, you may feel unsure of how to help them, or what to say or do to comfort them. There are many resources available to give you ideas on how you can help.
If you have a solid understanding of grief and the grieving process, you will be better able to serve as a strong support system for someone as they move through the grieving process. Below are some sources of information, to help you understand how grief can affect someone, and ways to provide assistance as they experience and process grief:
- HelpGuide.org – This non-profit organization is focused on giving people access to supportive regarding mental health, relationships, and wellness. They have an exceptional site listing information and resources related to death, grieving, and how to provide emotional support.
- Grief Healing – This is an excellent site maintained by a bereavement counselor and mental health consultant, providing a broad range of resources including links to many books and articles on topics related to death and grieving.
- MentalHealth.net – This site is focused on promoting mental health and wellness education and advocacy, and includes information, links, and articles related to many issues. This link provides an extensive list of articles related to grief in its many forms.
- GriefShare – GriefShare is a well-organized group offering seminars and grief recovery support groups throughout the U.S. and Canada, which are led by people who understand grieving and want to help.
- Grief Net.org – Grief Net is an established non-profit organization and internet community of people dealing with death, grief, and major losses, run by a clinical psychologist and certified traumatologist. This site is designed for people who are looking for support, who are looking for information on grief including books and videos, or who are looking for a resource including a hospice, support group, funeral home, counselors, or retreats.
