Everett Washington

Everett, Washington nestles between Puget Sound and the majestic Cascade Mountains. Considered part of Seattle’s metropolitan area, Everett is located just thirty miles north of Seattle on Interstate 5. As of the 2000 Census, Everett’s population was 91,488 residents.

Contrary to its humble beginnings as a lumber and mill town, Everett is currently a burgeoning center of business and serves as the seat of Snohomish County. Everett boasts a thriving economy comprised of aerospace, electronics, tourism, computer technology, education, telecommunications, health care and government business industries. This bayside city offers a vital deep-water port with Pacific Ocean access and an innovative naval center. The presence of Naval Station Everett has earned the city its nickname, “Sailor’s Choice”. In addition to the Naval Station, major employers include the paper products industry of Kimberly-Clark Corporation and Boeing Company’s manufacturing complex, which accounts for more than a third of Everett’s employment. The Eddie Bauer Company and Microsoft Headquarters are in nearby Redmond.

Everett’s commitment to families and education are evident in the wide variety of public, private and parochial schools available. Everett also provides several high quality institutes of higher learning. These include Everett Community College, Henry Cogswell College, City University, and Everest Technical Institute. Nearby, in Seattle, higher education facilities include Seattle University, University of Washington, Seattle Pacific University and Washington State University.

Surrounded by the natural splendor of Puget Sound, the Cascade Mountains and Snohomish River, Everett is clearly the gateway of the Pacific Northwest. Puget Sound is a waterway comprised of a complex system of channels, bays, inlets, islands and estuaries. This intricate body of water affords access to ocean-going ships as well as a wide array of vacation and recreational retreats. Activities include whale watching cruises, hiking, sailing, kayaking and salt-water fishing. The picturesque Cascade Mountains offer fly-fishing, nature trails, camping, hiking and skiing. Known as an excellent site for fishing, the Snohomish River, offers a wealth of recreational activities.

Open-air markets, galleries, unique-shops, fine dining and exciting entertainment characterize the Everett community. Visitors enjoy Everett’s parks, micro-breweries, professional sporting events, golf courses and touring sites such as the historic district, the Boeing building and Jetty Island. Everett’s historic district features a variety of stately old homes including the home of former Senator Henry Jackson. The Boeing Tour Center allows the public to tour the world’s largest building where Boeing assembles the 747, 767 and 777 super jets. Jetty Island is a two-mile long, manufactured island renowned as a bird watchers paradise.

Everett, Washington, consistently rated one of the best places to live in America, is an ideal place to call home. With its excellent quality of life, thriving economy and access to the amenities of nearby Seattle, it is no wonder that Everett represents this prosperous county.
